Radio SLave Answers to the questionnaire
One man, five aliases, and a reputation built on a single stubborn idea: music is for dancing. Radio Slave has answered the Astradanza Questionnaire, and he's bringing that philosophy to the club at our Ibiza party this Friday 31 July.
Behind the name is Matt Edwards, a producer who has spent his career refusing to sit still. Depending on the day, he's Matthew E (jacked-up Chicago house with a mean streak), Rekid (slower, muscular, soulful), Quiet Village (woozy disco-not-disco with Joel Martin), or Sea Devils (straight-up electronic pop). Radio Slave is the one most people know — the alias behind those incendiary remixes and re-edits, and that legendary splice of Kylie and New Order.
The through-line is where he started. Raised on the first wave of acid house, Matt cut his teeth on dancefloors where nobody cared about genre — you just moved. He carried that from the Milk Bar in '92 to Ministry of Sound, through the free parties of Wales and, eventually, to Brighton, where a love of the humble re-edit pulled him into the studio for good. Skint, Soul Jazz, Classic — the records kept coming, and never stopped.
Too many names for one artist? Maybe. But you don't need to keep track. You just need to show up.
