A few words with Billi

As we’re getting ready to welcome her for the first time behind the decks of Astradanza on the beach of Caparica, Saturday 25th of July, we asked a few questions to Billi, who confirmed once again her impeccable music taste.

Billi belongs to a generation that can't picture life without music — and her curiosity for sound only keeps deepening. She found her way in through friends: the people who hand you a record or pull you out to a night that rewires how you hear everything afterward. Listening slowly turned into a form of self-expression, one that keeps shifting with the people, places, and moments that shape who she is as an artist.

Listening, digging, sharing — these are the rituals that built her. Out of them comes a sound guided by instinct: warm, intimate, unmistakably human, the kind of set that feels more like a conversation than a performance.

What was the first record that blew your mind ?

Billi : Soul Capsule - Lady Science (NYC Sunrise) - I wasn’t collecting records yet when I first heard it, but it was one of the first tracks that changed my relationship with music. It taught me that music could be felt just as much as it could be heard. A few years later, my best friend offered me the record, and it became one of the most meaningful pieces in my collection.

IS THERE A city that changed how you play ?

Billi : I’ve been to Brussels a couple  of times and it has quietly reshaped my musical perspective. The people, their approach to music, and the way they experience it have always left me with a renewed sense of subtlety.

WHAT WAS THE Last thing that inspired you outside of music ?

Billi : My friends have been my constant source of inspiration, both in music and in life. They’re the people I learn the most from, simply through the way they think, create and experience the world. Surfing has also always shaped me deeply over the years. It taught me patience, intuition and respect for timing, qualities that naturally found their way into how I approach music.

TELL US ABOUT A producer we should all be watching

Nibius. He has a sense of creativity  that follows no obvious path yet every detail feels intentional. I’ve always admired the way he shapes sound, there’s an abstract quality to it that reflects his personality in the most honest way, and that’s what makes it so compelling.

The record you’d never sell.

Velv.93 - Vollsma
