tibi dabo’s first public live set ever

A sneak peak from Tibi Dabo’s Studio

How long have you been working on this live act?

It’s been a long time coming. I’ve wanted to play live for a while, but I needed to build it in a way that allowed for improvisation from the start, rather than following a fixed setlist. Over time I’ve managed to put something together. It’s definitely still in its early stages, this being my first time doing it, but it finally feels ready enough to leave the studio and see what happens.

What made you think “ok, it’s ready”?

I don’t think it is, really. If I’d waited until it felt finished, I’d probably never play it. The goal was never to perfect every detail, but to build something flexible enough that I could trust it in front of people.

When we spoke to you about an event in a circus, what came to mind?

It felt weirdly fitting. A circus is a bit about risk, spontaneity, and the possibility that something unexpected might happen. That’s pretty close to how I think about this live set. Still evolving, there’s room for improvisation, and hopefully a few surprises along the way.
